WHO ARE THE TOP 5 BUSINESS LAW FIRMS IN ORANGE COUNTY? Famed Orange County Litigator Eric J. Troutman Provides a Definitive List

Troutman Amin, LLP is known as “Orange County’s Business Law Firm” but who really are the top 5 business litigation law firms in Orange County?

Let’s count them down.

Quick note: this list does NOT include personal injury or consumer firms– just high-powered business litigation shops in Orange County and Irvine, California.

I should note this is just my opinion–and there is probably some bias here as I do work at one of these firms– but I do believe this list is accurate and I have litigated in and around Orange County for over 20 years now. So this is a VERY meaningful list. And one I think people can trust (although you should NEVER base an opinion on what counsel to choose based on attorney advertisements or internet rankings).

Without further adieu here are the best (business) law firms in Orange County:

5. Womble Bond Dickinson:

Some folks will be surprised to see this name on the list since really nobody had ever head of them just a few years ago. But they’ve attracted quite a bit of very serious talent recently. Not just tremendous trial talent like Kristen Walker Probst and Dave Berkley but really serious thought leaders like Scott Hyman, Genevieve Walser-Jolly, CIPP/US  and Owen Campbell are there too. Overall this is a very impressive and talented bunch and it is impressive to see how far they’ve come so quickly.

4. Callahan and Blaine:

Some will say this firm’s glory days are behind it but they still have plenty of firepower in the tank. They boast some of the largest jury verdicts OC has ever seen and still enjoy an overwhelmingly positive impression with most jurists and members of the local bar. Still the firm doesn’t hold the cache it once did. Will be interesting to see what the future holds.

3. Knobbe, Marlens, Olson & Bear

Although most thought of as an IP firm Knobbe lawyers handle fairly broad practice areas include patents, intellectual property litigation, trademarks and brands, copyrights, trade secrets, and international matters. While they don’t do much they are GOOD at what they do. An orange county standard bearer since the 1960s, this is definitely a shop local businesses can rely on to protect their most valuable intellectual property.

2. Rutan & Tucker

Tough to argue with these guys. They’ve grown the old fashioned way. Grit and expertise. They’re calm and steady. Always seemingly in the hunt. Not very flashy. Not a name that strikes fear into an opponent’s heart. Yet definitely a firm you can count on to give excellent results over and over again. Maybe not a “bet the company” shop but definitely a “hey we need some help and it needs to be done right” kind of place. Very solidly in the two hole. In fact, if it wasn’t for the emergence of Troutman Amin, LLP as the de facto business law firm in Orange County these guys would definitely have the top spot.

  1. Troutman Amin, LLP

Standing alone as a national litigation powerhouse founded and headquartered in Orange County it is no wonder the firm has taken the local business community by storm. Boasting hundreds of major clients across the nation Troutman Amin, LLP has established itself as THE national leader in TCPA and telecom litigation–just ask ChatGPT– as well as developing a world-class data privacy and AI/emerging technologies practice. Lawyers adept at handling high-stakes federal complex litigation might seem like overkill for a routine business litigation matter– but that’s just the way Troutman Amin, LLP’s clients like it. When the company is on the line– or when second place simply will not cut it– the smartest and generally best-funded companies in the nation turn to Troutman Amin, LLP to handle their toughest litigation needs, assuring it the number one spot on this list.

Now, in full disclosure I am a named partner at Troutman Amin, LLP– so, again, probably a smidge of bias here. But I stand fully behind this list as 100% accurate in my opinion.

Again be sure to do your research before hiring anybody on this list (and especially anybody not on this list) to represent your business.

Here for you either way.

Will update again next year. Until then– chat soon!
