Can we just have a moratorium on all TCPA class action settlements that the Czar is not a part of.
The roof has just been blown off of these things as lawyers who do not know how to handle TCPA suits are settling them for astronomical values.
Take the case of Lewis v. Register.com, 2026 WL 930847 (S.D. Ind. April 1, 2026).
There Register.com allegedly made about 1,100 illegal wrong number robocalls to just 453 people.
For these crimes it is now paying $1,500,000.00– an insane $3,311.00 per person and nearly $1,400.00 per call!
This is nuts.
Register.com could have gone to trial on this case and done better than this result. Its literally almost the entire statutory maximum. Its barely a settlement at all (unless I am missing something here?)
The class definition is:
All persons and entities throughout the United States (1) to whom Register.com, Inc. placed a call, (2)
directed to a telephone number assigned to a cellular telephone service, (3) in connection with which
Register.com, Inc. used an artificial or prerecorded voice, (4) from February 12, 2021 through November
24, 2025, and (5) after the cellular telephone number was permanently disconnected and made available
for reassignment per the Federal Communication Commission’s (“FCC”) Reassigned Numbers Database
(“RND”).
Simply incredible.
Again– no settlements without the Czar’s approval from now on!
Looks like the Wolf and Mr. Number 1 teamed up on this one– and they stand to collect about $500k, which is actually pretty low considering class members are going to each get thousands off this one.
If you are a member of this class you definitely want to make a claim– don’t know why Register.com is just giving away money. But hey– cash in!
If YOU want to AVOID being a poster child for high dollar TCPA class action settlements be sure to attend the top TCPA session at the top legal conference in America– the Law Conference of Champions. May 5-6, 2026.
