INCREDIBLE!: TCPA Compliance Summit Wraps Up–and It was a Fantastic Show

So every year when the Summit rolls around I get excited.

And this year was no exception.

Two full and glorious days of TCPA, telecom, privacy and regulatory discussion–and not the boring endless droning sort of discussion, but the fun interactive “let’s dig in” sort of discussion.

Attendees universally enjoyed it with only a few grumbled that Queenie didn’t get enough stage time–only 30 minutes in a 2 day summit. What’s up with that?

So many good folks!

But things were otherwise fantastic with great happy hour events and so many wonderful chances to catch up with friends new and old.

The toughest issues of the day were thoroughly discussed.

I walked through all of the biggest developments in the TCPA in 2023–the year the regulators went absolutely nuts.

Consider: the FCC issued 3 NINE FIGURE penalties for TCPA violations this year, acted to shut down 22 carriers, nearly killed Phone Burner, and still found the time to entirely gut the lead generation industry.

I mean, there’s aggressive and then there’s aggressive.

Not to be outdone, the FTC banned prerecorded calls on third-party leads completely and also launched the telemarketing sweep-raising new arguments to hammer over 150 companies.

While the FTC mostly went after the consent farms and bad actors, the FCC’s recent lead gen ruling looks to arm a legion of private plaintiff’s lawyers to file high-dollar TCPA cases against small businesses. Not good.

I broke down all of these developments and so so so many more. Then we discussed the tough one– the FCC’s new lead gen ruling.

We talked through all of the third-party and first-party issues that arise from the new ruling, which will shutter thousands of small businesses and cost innumerable jobs.

A great dinner followed–Hawaiian theme for some reason, hahah.

The next day there was more fantastic content, including Queenie’s CRITICAL CIPA discussion— the entire crowd was riveted learning about the law that can crush companies across the nation if a California consumer visits their website.

This law is the HEIGHT of absurdity, but with $5k penalties for each violation–and class actions enabled– you cannot ignore this law.

Mercifully compliance is pretty easy–and Queenie gave some FANTASTIC tips on how to avoid the bite of CIPA. She really is an incredible resource on the issue. Just an absolute PRO.
