WOW!: Cost to Use FCC’s Reassigned Numbers Database Drops 20%–Just In the Nick of Time

Just covered a story on Humana getting blown up in a TCPA class action involving prerecorded calls made to wrong numbers.

OH THE HUMANITY: Humana Crushed in TCPA Class Certification Order Over Wrong Number Robocalls

Probably could have been avoided to some degree–maybe completely– if Humana was using the FCC’s reassigned numbers database.

The database allows callers to determine whether or not a number has changed hands before calling it. As millions of numbers do change hands each year this is a critical tool for high-volume callers to avoid TCPA risk and in the Czar’s opinion EVERY large volume caller that calls numbers more than 60-90 days after receiving them should be using.

Indeed, the R.E.A.C.H. standards require responsible callers to use the RND to avoid wrong number calls!

And now the FCC is rewarding industry with a price cut!

Starting April 28, 2025 the cost of the RND will drop 20%. Awesome!

To be clear neither the Czar or Troutman Amin, LLP have anything to do with the RND–and we are not compensated to talk about it– I just think its an awesome and important tool everyone should use!

Then again, the RND IS a sponsor of Law Conference of Champions III (because they’re smart!)

FCC Announces Reduced, Streamlined Pricing for Reassigned
Numbers Database
New Rates Will Become Effective on April 28, 2025–

WASHINGTON, April 7, 2025—The Federal Communications Commission announced reduced pricing for its Reassigned Numbers Database, a tool designed to prevent a consumer from getting calls intended for someone who previously held their phone number. Subscribers use the database to determine whether a telephone number may have been reassigned so they can avoid calling the wrong consumer.

In addition to a 20% savings on all existing subscription tiers, today’s announcement also adds two new tiers to better meet industry needs. Together these changes will make it easier for callers to check large volumes of numbers before calling them, potentially reducing misdirected calls from reaching consumers.

The Reassigned Number Database is a first-of-its-kind resource to help callers reach their intended recipients while avoiding potentially costly liability for violations of the Telephone Consumer Protection Act. The Commission announced the launch of the database in November 2021 and is continuously working to improve its utility for current and potential users. The Commission recently approved new usage pricing that adds two subscription tiers and lowers prices for all subscribers. Today’s announcement builds on these improvements.

  1. Sadly, very few telemarketers/sellers subscribe to the NDNCR or the RNDB. Lots of bad actors out there. If only they would follow the R.E.A.C.H. standards, think how much better TCPAWorld would be. You can lead a horse to water, but you cannot make them drink.
