So 2024 is half over.
Nuts right?
The older I get the faster the time passes–says everyone. Or perhaps we’re just growing nearer the event horizon of a black hole and time is actually passing faster. Or perhaps time does not exist at all and our perception of the unveiling of the collapse of potential outcomes is accelerating as the rules of the known universe are better understood and the End of history nears.
Whatever.
My point is 2024 has really flown by, but with the year half way behind us it is good to do a quick mid-year review and check in on all the biggest stories of the year. And there is no better barometer of the impact of the story than reads.
This year has been dominated by the FCC’s new one-to-one rule and the twists and turns around vicarious liability losses by major brands who are learning their franchise and independent contractor models will not save them from liability in TCPAWorld.
But I must say the number 1 best-read story of the year really surprised me.
So let’s get to the list and you can see it or yourself:
10. The FCC’s One-to-One Rule is Published and the Countdown Starts!
No surprise here. The 10th best read story of the year was the official announcement of the publication of the One-to-One rule and the establishment of January 26, 2025 as the date of compliance.
9. The FCC Regulates AI Voice Calls for the First Time
The ninth best read story of the year so far was the FCC taking steps to regulate and outlaw AI voice calls without express consent under the TCPA. This made the TCPA the first–and so far only–federal law to directly limit the use of AI.
BREAKING NEWS: EFFECTIVE IMMEDIATELY THE USE OF AI IN A “ROBOCALL” IS ILLEGAL
8. The “Lead Gen Resources” Page Takes Off
So the 8th best read story of 2024 isn’t really a story–its a page. The incredible Lead Gen Resources page Troutman Amin, LLP complied on the TCPAWorld.com website has received thousands of views and has become a critical resource for folks hoping to comply with the rules and access dozens of critical resources all in one place.
7. First American Home Warranty Forced to Settle a TCPA Suit
People love reading stories about other people spending money on TCPA settlements. No idea why but it is definitely a thing. First American settled a TCPA suit earlier this year for a relatively-low few hundred thousand dollars and folks were very curious about it.
6. State Mini-TCPA Telemarketing Laws Continue to Spread
Continuing a theme from 2023, state-level telemarketing restrictions continue to pop up all across the country. Out sixth best read story was an overview of the phenomenon. NO surprise the state mini-TCPA discussion at the Law Conference of Champions is among the most anticipated sessions on July 15!
5. News That Allstate May Be Vicariously Liable for TCPA Violations by Independent Agents Shocks Readers
A massive number of people tuned in to read about Allstate’s recent troubles with the TCPA. Turns out hiring independent agents to sell your products is no protection from TCPA liability.
4. Troutman Amin, LLP Breaks the Internet By Giving Away a Free Consent Disclosure Template to Comply with FCC’s New One-to-One Rule
What sort of law firm just GIVES AWAY critical free template to help companies comply with the law? Troutman Amin, LLP. We’ve never been about just making money–we’re about HELPING people to comply with the law (and also stopping unwanted robocalls.) And the best way to do both is to simplify complex orders from the FCC and provide free tools and tricks. And the Troutman Amin 15 is the best tool of all. Our Troutman Amin 15 is the fourth best-read story on TCPAWorld so far this year.
3. Speaking of Free Guides–the Troutman Amin, LLP 2024 TCPA Annual Review (presented by Contact Center Compliance) is the Third Best Read Story of the Year so Far!!
Over 13,000 people have received their free copy of the single most comprehensive and useful (and FREE) guide to the TCPA and related laws out there. No surprise the story announcing its availability continues to rack up views. Have you requested YOUR copy??
2. Keller Williams Facing Massive TCPA Trouble Again After Settling for $40MM Leads Readers Stunned
The second best-read story so far this year involves Keller Williams being trapped in a TCPA class action because of the actions of its franchisees. And while this story is similar to Allstate’s plight, it is even worse because of the massive 2023 TCPA Settlement KW agreed to worth ~$40MM!!!! No wonder folks want to now about this.
1. The Best Read Story of the Year So Far– Safe Select’s Founder Dan Greenwell Address One-to-One Compliance With Human Selection Dialing
So this was just stunning to me. A little note written by new REACH member and along-time TCPAWorld reader Dan Greenwell has gone on to be the best-read story of 2024. I guess from a certain perspective it makes sense, however. Compliance with the one-to-one rule is hard and use of a human selection system as an alternative route to compliance makes sense–especially for those who want to continue leveraging aged leads after January 26, 2025. So perhaps this isn’t as surprising as it seems.
Well, that’s it folks. Hope you enjoyed the top 10 list and stick around for more great content.
