Yes, that’s legendary NFL Coach Ron Rivera grinning from ear to ear.

He joined the Deserve to Win podcast (Ep. 37) and I got to interview the guy. He’s just incredible. A LEGEND on the field and off the field. Love having him at Cal.

Told me a great story about how he met his wife at Cal– they’ve been married for 40 years– and how much the school means to him and how happy he is to be giving back.

Its an incredible story. The whole thing– from playing with the legendary 1985 Bears (Payton, Ditka, Perry), to coaching the Panthers in Super Bowl 50 the guy has truly had an incredible life.

But not the best life ever.

That honor belongs to me. 🙂

I get to work with the greatest team in the world. Talk to guys like Coach Rivera. And then have a small business client say:

“Thank God for you Troutman. You’re a god sent. Absolutely night and day from the last ___ing law firm I was working with.”

And you know what’s weird– I’ve had other clients say essentially the exact same words to me.

Its the “Thank God for you” part that gets me.

We’re like an answered prayer.

A refuge for the suffering.

Protection for the people.

To me that’s the best life. Protecting people. Easing their worries and their fear. Giving them a sense of comfort in a raging world of uncertainty.

I always say an attorney’s primary job is to help people to see the truth.

But I guess there’s another piece of it.

Helping people to feel safe.

Hope to be doing that for a whole lot more people soon.
