BREAKING: US Representative Suzan DelBene Introduces Federal Privacy Bill

US Representative Suzan DelBene (D. Wa.) has introduced privacy legislation, the Information Transparency and Personal Data Control Act.

The bill would require the Federal Trade Commission to promulgate regulations related to sensitive personal information, and for other purposes.

The bill recognizes the rights of consumers to, inter alia:

(A) exercise control over the personal data companies collect from them and how they use it;

(B) easily understandable and accessible information about privacy and security practices;

(C) expect that companies will collect, use, and disclose personal data in ways that are consistent with the context in which consumers provide the data; and

(D) [assure] secure and responsible handling of sensitive personal information.

The draft bill is here: New Privacy Bill

This is potentially huge news.
