ABSOLUTELY INCREDIBLE: LCOC24 Changed Everything… And Legal Conference Will Never Be The Same!!!!!

There’s nothing better than doing something no one has ever done before.

Folks were greeted at the airport by the Firm’s new WaaS ad campaign! And #welcomelion

99.9% of people will never know that feeling, unfortunately.

Here comes the show…

But around here we do something unique and extraordinary once a week or so. 🙂

Professor Leads in the house!!!

But the Law Conference of Champions was on a whole different level.

Every Troutman Amin event is a fashionable time–come as you want to be remembered!!!!

No law firm, anywhere, ever has done something as ambitious as this.

A conference with zero filler content. No fluff. No nonsense.

A conference that hit EVERY SINGLE TOPIC marketing companies need to know to understand the laws that apply to them.

Our sponsors were VERY happy with their stage time…

A conference showcasing the talents not just of partners of the firm, but of associates and even of paralegals.

And the incredible folks from Contact Center Compliance were there in force to support us!

A conference thrown by a law firm that doesn’t have an event organizer, or even a graphic designer on staff. Just three assistants and a legal secretary.

And yet. Somehow….

We blew the doors off the place.

Folks have been so kind in their praise. So effusive. An endless stream of accolades.

Hundreds of people attended in person. Even more virtually. And nothing but praise from every set of lips.

Queenie and the Czar would make sure everything went just right!!

The content was extraordinary. Every detail attended to.

From the leather bound notebooks and perfectly placed CLE forms and pens, to the embroidered swag bags–filled with a hat, magazine, t-shirt, year-end review and fun stickers–to the hot breakfast, high-end lunch, and even the cookies and milk served as an afternoon snack there was no expense spared.

The boys–John Henson and Matt Hytrek–goofing off at the CCC booth.

But most importantly–it was SO MUCH FUN!!!

Kelsey!!!!

The virtual attendees, of course, were greeted to a curated performance hosted by our newest starlette Kelsey Brown! (Who we are calling “Kelsey Cam” from now on.)

Attendees greeted by Matt and Evelyn!

And the content on stage was perfection.

The day began with the partners on stage telling a few tales from the firm’s canonical origins.

Then the Czar began the educational sessions with TCPA Today–breaking down the latest TCPA developments, including the critical changes ushered in by Loper Bright and the death of Chevron deference. Attendees were the first to learn on the Czar’s view on whether the FCC’s one-to-one rule is likely to survive the Supreme Court’s latest handiwork… everyone else will have to wait for ASE now. 😉

Then Queenie took the stage and deftly worked through critical compliance tips for staying safe in the dangerous TCPAWorld. So may critical tips were dropped as Queenie drew from her days as in-house counsel supporting the entire enterprise marketing machinery behind one of the best known mortgage brands in the nation.

Hot on her heels was our latest cover girl— the Baroness , who presented on Hot CIPA Summer and the continuing threat posed by California Invasion of Privacy Act cases to companies across the country. And with the raise of the new Pen Register cases–suggesting that any form of consumer targeting using data obtained online may trigger a $5k penalty– many eyes were opened to the importance of the relatively simple compliance fixes the Baroness suggested.

An incredible networking lunch followed.

Was amazing how many new connections were made as different pieces of the diverse Troutman Amin, LLP ecosystem collided and found one another for the first time.

Obviously everyone attending this show was interested in compliance so there was no better place on the planet for companies looking for compliance vendors and complaint partners to connect with like-minded brands. Just an incredible experience for everyone.

After lunch, Big Bad John Henson gave a performance so good he just had to tell me how good it was repeatedly afterward– so you know it was good. But he truly did captivate the audience while introducing several critical new developments from the FTC, CFPB and CMS that had folks engaged and fired up the rest of the show!

Then the Duchess took the stage for a critical review of the state mini-TCPAs. Focusing on the newest state amendments, the Duchess walked through critical developments in Mississippi, Maryland, Connecticut, Florida and numerous other states–providing fascinating tid bits and “Did you know” trivia slides throughout the presentation.

Following a wonderful break–where three kinds of cookies and three kinds of milk were served– LCOC closed in dramatic fashion with the two most highly-anticipated sessions of the day.

First, the Countess took the stage for the ultimate state privacy road trip–covering developments in 22 states in an incredibly clear and concise manner that earned some of the highest praise from attendees. Literally never seen a better data privacy presentation than what Countess prepared for yesterday and it made matters so much clearer in my mind. Particularly appreciated the nuanced look at what other firms are getting wrong about state privacy laws-which is just incredibly valuable content.

And that lead up to the Dame.

The Dame’s presentation on AI was unquestionably the session audience members were most excited for. Over 80% of LCOC audience-members use AI in some form or fashion in their business, and with over 500 pieces of state legislation currently pending or adopted at the state level–and critical AI developments at the federal level–only one lawyer in the nation has tried to synthesize all of the critical AI regulatory developments in one presentation– Tori Guidry.

To say that Tori Guidry might be the leading AI regulatory attorney in the nation is not an overstatement, and she she broke down the leading developments in each state and gave clear takeaways it became clear to me that MOST companies are already violating the law when it comes to AI usage– the just don’t have the capable legal counsel needed to provide sound counsel.

This is unreal…

No wonder the crowd was chanting for Tori as she took the stage. Just an unreal moment.

This team put in SO MUCH hard work!

Although Tori’s commitment to her presentation was legendary– well over 50 hours went into the research and development of her slides–every member of Troutman Amin, LLP devoted countless hours to developing their slides and presentation.  And it showed.

The incredible question and answer session…

The day ended with an incredible question and answer session that saw discussion of matters ranging from the End of Truth in the AI era, whether Chevron deference is a good or bad thing, a cross-over analysis of data privacy requests and they relate to TCPA revocation efforts, and a ton of nitty gritty statutory interpretation issues.

And through it all the crowd stayed engaged and committed. Virtually no one left early. It was simply amazing to see.

Of course there was a fabulous happy hour on the rooftop to keep people around. 😉

So many REACH board members were present!

Once again the networking opportunities were unreal. But one topic was definitely on everybody’s mind following the conference–the incredible job R.E.A.C.H. has done advocating for the industry, on the one hand, and stopping unwanted robocalls, on the other.

So as the night wound down, and the Dom P was inevitably consumed, the remaining attendees relaxed in the beautiful cool California air and reflected on how much there was to be grateful for.

It was truly an incredible time.

None of this would have been possible without Zeina–she got it done!!!!

A lot more pictures and videos will be make their rounds soon. The professional photos aren’t even available for another week or so– so expect many more fun posts to come.

Love my partners! (And Puja’s Mom…hahahha)

For now though our eyes turn to the long road to NYC for Affiliate Summit East.

The Czar and team have a main stage assignment– to bring the mission of REACH and word of the one-to-one rule to the affiliate masses.

Luckily we have a couple of weeks now to relax and–more importantly–get some work done.

See ya’ll next year!

Thank you to everyone who attended.

Much love!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
