Senator John Thune was just elected Senate majority leader by the new Republican majority. 

This makes Thune one of the four most powerful people in our government.

Why does this matter?

Thune just happened to be the architect of the TRACED Act and a frequent flyer in TCPAWorld circles.

For instance he signed onto the following statement following the SCOTUS Facebook decision:

“The Supreme Court’s ruling removing text messages from the Telephone Consumer Protection Act may allow scammers to send out a barrage of texts or calls without fear of reprisal or consequence. As the principal leaders behind the passage of the TRACED Act, we will closely follow the impacts this ruling may have on consumers. We know the last thing Americans need right now is an onslaught of texts or calls from scammers trying to swindle them out of their hard-earned money.”

A couple years back he also worked through an enhancement bill that never came to fruition:

Bottom line: this guy is a HEAVY HITTER in TCPA circles and has made telecom issues a highlight of his legislative career.
